ALDO has announced the launch of its first sustainable shoe collection featuring a recycled knit upper and algae foam outsole. The collection will be available in lace-up and loafer styles and three colours each for men and women.
The material components of the RPPL include recycled plastic water bottles developed through a recycled knit (3-6 plastic bottles per shoe). The use of the recycled knit reduces the need to extract new raw materials and diverts plastics from landfills. Another major component is an innovative outsole made from algae biomass. Algae is a highly renewable plant source that is capable of doubling in size every 24 hours.
The use of algae material in the RPPL allows ALDO to help rebalance the ecosystem from algae overpopulation which is often caused by factors such as global warming and pollution.
Prices are as follows:
Men’s RPPL pricing – £80
Ladies RPPL pricing – £70
